Founder: Alexandra Ingram, MSW

Alexandra Ingram is the Founder and Executive Director of Make The Distinction, a developmental life skills program designed for girls ages 13-18 in the Philadelphia and Greater Philadelphia area. With personal development being the foundation of this program, girls will develop various skills to make a healthy transition into womanhood. Alex was born and raised in Cheltenham and grew up playing sports. Entering college, Alex was put in a box due to the stereotypes that came along with being a female athlete. She was tired of hearing how she should dress, wear her hair, or wasn’t entertaining enough boys; this ultimately made her question her values because she was not doing what everyone else was doing at her young age. Through the guidance of her parents, mentors, church family, Alex learned not to compromise the confidence in the woman she was becoming.

Over time, Alex developed a love for youth through various experiences. Alex’s fire was ignited while studying Psychology at Kutztown University, where she began to identify her purpose in leading others and fighting for causes bigger than herself. Alex continued onto higher education, by earning her Master’s of Social Work degree in 2013. Since Graduate School, Alex has served with City Year (Americorps) in Miami, FL, helped rebuild homes in New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina, and served on a missions team to build a home for an impoverished family in Nicaragua. Alex has case management

experience working with families in the Child Welfare system and is currently a Prevention Specialist working with students, ages 9 - 18 in the Philadelphia School District; teaching Drug & Alcohol Prevention and Life Skills Development.

Alex lives her life by this quote: “Lead, follow, or get out of the way.” If you cannot take the initiative or assist; then, move aside so the right individuals can get the job done. Through years of planning this program, Alex is passionate about continuing this new journey by empowering our young ladies to be the best version of themselves without the confinement of societal standards and expectations of womanhood. Girls will enhance professional development, service their community, and practice healthy living in order to navigate through life in a distinct way!
